Fancy Gap, VA to Waynesboro, VA Started at 8:40 a.m. ended at 7:10 p.m.
Total miles = 400 About 200 on the BRP and 200 on the expressway going back and forth between Fancy Gap and Roanoke.
Got to Roanoke at noon, which was about 90 miles. Mabry Mill is between Fancy Gap and Roanoke. I stopped for a while at Mabry Mill which is a very picturesque and historic mill site. After a cup of coffee and cookie and numerous pictures, I was back on the road again heading up the BRP. When I got to Roanoke I thought I left my cell phone at the motel in Fancy Gap so I got on the expressway and rode back to Fancy Gap. It wasn’t there so I rode the expressway back to Roanoke and got back on the BRP. Got back on BRP at 4:00 and got to Waynesboro at 7:10. Waynesboro is the Northeast end of the BRP. In Waynesboro, I met a guy that was originally from Michigan but he moved to Waynesboro in the early 80s. His name was John Appleford and he was working as a judge in Waynesboro. He asked what my plan was for getting back to Michigan. I told him I didn’t have any special plan so he recommended that I take US 250 from Waynesboro, through West Virginia and Ohio. He said it was a straight shot to Sandusky, OH and it was a very beautiful drive. To accomplish this I would alter my plan to ride the Skyline Drive from Wayneboro to Front Royal. Instead, I would take the expressway around to Front Royal and ride the Skyline Drive back to Waynesboro. The Skyline Drive starts in Waynesboro and ends in Front Royal. Skyline Drive is in the Shenandoah National Park and is 105 miles long.
